Cancer Nutrition Support
what actually changes on the plate.

The goal during treatment is strength, not weight loss

Through chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, the priority is maintaining weight, muscle and strength so that treatment can continue on schedule. Weight loss during this period is usually a problem to be prevented rather than a goal.

No food treats cancer. Nutrition support helps you tolerate the treatment your oncologist has planned, and that is a genuinely valuable thing without needing to be described as anything more.

Side effects are the practical work

Nausea, mouth ulcers, taste changes that make food metallic, dry mouth, diarrhoea or constipation and profound fatigue each need a different practical answer: texture, temperature, timing, flavour and portion size.

Small, frequent, energy-dense foods usually beat three meals. Cold food is often tolerated better than hot when smell triggers nausea.

Food safety when counts are low

When white cell counts fall, food hygiene stops being routine advice and becomes important: freshly cooked food, no cut fruit or juice from outside, no raw or undercooked egg and meat, careful water.

Your oncology team will say when this applies to you and for how long.

The diets and supplements to bring up before starting

Fasting protocols, ketogenic diets, alkaline diets and high-dose antioxidant supplements circulate widely among families. Some can interfere with treatment, and some are actively unsafe during chemotherapy.

Bring anything you are considering, including herbal preparations, to both your oncologist and the dietician before starting it. That single habit prevents most of the harm we see.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What people ask
about this diet.

01Does sugar feed cancer?+

This is a widespread oversimplification. Cutting all carbohydrate during treatment often causes weight and muscle loss, which is a real and immediate risk. Discuss any restrictive diet with your oncologist.

02Should I take antioxidant supplements during chemotherapy?+

Not without your oncologist's approval — some may interfere with treatment. Bring the bottle to the appointment.

03I cannot eat because everything tastes metallic. What helps?+

Cold or room-temperature food, plastic instead of metal cutlery, tart flavours, and stronger seasoning help many people. It is worked through individually.

04Can a diet cure cancer?+

No. Nutrition supports your strength and your ability to complete treatment. Anyone claiming a diet cures cancer is causing harm.

Responsible clinical guidance

Nutrition does not cure cancer and never replaces oncology treatment. Urgent symptoms and supplements must be discussed with the treating oncology team.
