Kids Nutrition
what actually changes on the plate.

Fussy eating is a pattern, not a personality

Most children described as fussy are eating enough calories β€” usually from milk, biscuits, chips and juice β€” and simply not hungry at meal times. The intervention is rarely a supplement; it is the gap between eating occasions.

Pressure at the table reliably makes it worse. So does the phone or television, which lets a child eat without noticing food at all.

Growth is judged on a chart, not on a feeling

Whether a child is underweight is answered by plotting height and weight for age, not by comparing with a cousin. Many children brought in as 'not eating' are growing perfectly well, and the family's worry is the thing that needs attention.

Where growth genuinely is faltering, that needs medical assessment alongside nutrition, not a tonic.

Childhood obesity is now the more common problem

School canteens, delivery apps, sweetened drinks and long screen hours have made overweight far more common in urban Telugu households than undernutrition.

Children are never put on restrictive diets here. The changes are to what is in the house, what is served at meals, drinks, sleep and activity β€” and they apply to the whole family, not to one child who is singled out.

Iron, vitamin D and the school lunch box

Low iron is common and shows up as tiredness, poor concentration and frequent infections. Vitamin D is low in a surprising number of children who play mostly indoors.

The lunch box is where most of the practical work happens: something with protein, something with fibre, and food that is still appealing at eleven o'clock.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What people ask
about this diet.

01My child eats nothing. Should I give a health drink?+

Most malted drinks are largely sugar and reduce appetite for real food. The gap between eating occasions is usually the more useful thing to change.

02Is my child underweight?+

That is answered by plotting height and weight for age on a growth chart. Comparison with other children is not a measure.

03Can children follow a weight-loss diet?+

Children are not put on restrictive diets. The approach is family-wide changes to food available at home, drinks, sleep and activity while the child continues to grow.

04Are supplements necessary?+

Only where a deficiency is identified or a diet is genuinely limited. Testing first, supplementing second.

Responsible clinical guidance

Growth concerns, allergies, feeding disorders and medical symptoms require assessment by a qualified paediatric clinician.
